Filk Music
Filk is a type of music, loosely related to Science Fiction. Nick
Smith wrote a
description of filk (blars.org)
but there is no simple agreed-upon definition. Many
SF cons have some kind of filk, ranging from
entire filk conventions to giving the filkers a room so they will shut
up. (At least one con learned the hard way not to deny the filkers a
room they had been promised.)

alt.music.filk
and rec.music.filk
- The newsgroup
rec.music.filk is bidirectionally
gatewayed to the Fidonet FILK echo. The Fido "Topic Cop" Kay
Shapero tries to keep
discussions on topic (puns are allowed, as is almost anything in song) and
posts several informational postings occasionally.
alt.music.filk
still exists, but Fido is now gating rec.music.filk
instead, which frees a.m.f for somewhat bawdy postings, as it is no
longer subject to Fidonet restrictions.

- Information, schedules and interview transcripts available.
"Any station with access to the public radio satellite system can have it
without any type of carriage fee... The quick mnemonic tag to explain it
to (public radio station program directors) would be 'kind of like FRESH
AIR, but with all SF guests.' Feel free to e-mail me if you need addresses
or need to know if a specific station has satellite access. Thanks.
Confirmed guests for our first quarter nationally (which means the
interview has already happened): Clive Barker, Kim Stanley Robinson, Orson
Scott Card, Ellen Kushner, Delia Sherman, George RR Martin, Caitlin R.
Kiernan and Joe Kubert.
Tentatively scheduled guests include: Bruce Sterling, Barbara Hambly,
George Alec Effinger, Mike Mignola and David Brin."
